manufacturer of footwear, apparel, and sporting goods. It is a
subsidiary company of Adidas, which purchased the company in
January 2006. Reebok is endorsed popular athletes such as Allen
Iverson and Yao Ming. In 2003, rapper Jay-Z became the first
non-athlete to receive a signature sneaker from Reebok. Jay-Z's
sneaker, the S. Carter, became the fastest selling sneaker in
Reebok's history.
Origin
Reebok's name
originates from the Afrikaans spelling of rhebok, a type of
antelope. The company was
originally founded in 1895 by Joe and Jeff Foster under the name
J.W. Foster and Sons. The name was changed to Reebok in 1958,
after the name was found in a dictionary.
