Now that the Air Jordan VII Hares have
been re-released as part of the Air Jordan VII/XVI Collezione
Package, I'm sure there are quite a few sneakerheads questioning
their accuracy. Now that have both the original and the retro
version, I've decided it was a good idea to put both pairs together
and answer that question. Let's see how good of a job Jordan
Brand did in remaking one of the most popular colorways of the Air
Jordan VII.
Please note: The original pair is a size
11, while the retro pair is a size 10.5. This will account for a few
slight differences, so I will only point out the significant
changes.
From a side view, you can really
tell the differences in the cutout of the shoes. Notice the
difference in overall lines of the shoe. On the original Hare VIIs,
the suede sections have more of a rounded shape, whereas on the
Collezione version, they tend to have a more narrow, triangular
shape. Also notice the extra lace hole at the top, not present on
the original VIIs.

The same can be said about the
inside of the shoe as well.

Notice the midsole is on the
original is molded in white, whereas the retros are painted in
white. The white paint is definitely more prone to
scuffing. The grooves on the soles of the original VIIs
appear to be slightly deeper, and have a pointy shape compared
to the retros, which have more of a rounded shape. Perhaps the
deeper grooves would allow for better traction?

The jumpman on the original Hares
seems to be lacking a bit of detail compared to the Collezione
retros. Also now present on the retros is a third lace hole.

From the top view, you can easily
see how much more narrow the Collezione retros are compared
to OGs. Just look at the arch where the tongue joins the toe
box. Also notice that the mesh tongue on the OGs has much larger
holes.

Also, the '23' on the back of the the
shoe is two different shades, the OGs resemble more of a royal blue,
while the retros have a purple color.
Although not pictured, the "Nike
Air" is printed on the insoles of the original Hare VIIs, while
the retros have the "Countdown" logo on the insole.
Conclusion: OGs Hares Still Rule!
The Collezione Hares appear almost
identical to the originals at first, but the truth can be seen under
closer examination. The Retro Hares have a much narrower shape than
the originals, which means a little less comfort for those with wide
feet. The suede shapes are definitely off as well, most noticeable
when looking from the profile view. Also, as with most of the retro
models made in the last few years, the leather quality is lacking.
As for the Nike Air symbol on retros, we may never see that again.
Overall, the Collezione Hare VIIs are were a nice attempt at a
remake, but you can't beat the OGs.
